Celler Jaume de Puntiró
vinyes i vins

The Jaume de Puntiró Celler, vinyes i vins was founded in 1980 by Jaume Calafat i Nadal and is currently run by his children Pere and Bernat Calafat i Vich.

The winemaking tradition comes, by maternal line, from the Vich of Ca Sa Consellera, who made wine since the beginning of the 19th century and, by paternal line, the Calafat who elaborated wine in the possessió of Puntiró.

The cellar is located in Santa Maria del Camí, where the wine tradition goes back to the Catalan conquest (13th century). However, it is from the 17th century that the vineyard and the wine become an important economic activity in the village, elaborating wines for centuries in an artisan way and identifying the wineries with a pine branch hanging over the portal.

The Celler Jaume de Puntiró produces artisan, ecological and quality wine. The whole process – the cultivation of the vine, the elaboration and the aging – follows  artisanal methods and guidelines, although without losing sight of the technological advances. The Celler has the Artisan Master’s Letter (Carta de Maestro Artesano) and the Master Craftsman Certificate (Documento de Calificación Artesanal).

The cultivation and production process is environmentally and consumer friendly according to the uses and practices of traditional regional agriculture, which have always been respectful with the environment. The winery has a organic farming certification.

The cellar uses the native grape varieties Manto Negro, Callet, Gorgollassa, Prensal blanc and Giró Ros, combined with the foreign varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz; cultivated in the vineyards: Sa Vinya Vella, Ca sa Pesa, Can Quart, Can Pau, Can Xenoi, Can Servi and Cas Misser Fiol.

The red calcareous soil presents abundant stones on the surface, which, together with the geographical situation, has a positive impact on the quality of the grapes and the carefully elaborated wines, in order to obtain an excellent quality of color, aroma and flavor.
